On the Couch with Naturals: Janay Green

Hello ladies! Meet Janay! She is a beautiful, young naturalista who was recently discovered what works for her hair. I remember how frustrated she used to get about her hair. She would text me that no products were working, how much of a deal it was washing her hair, etc. So as a result, she used to wear it straight all the time. However that led to heat damage and she hasn't been able to retain a whole lot of length.

Rememer Janay from this post? Here are a few before pictures...
Her hair straight
Straight and curled

NOW after finding what works for her, she is loving her hair, loving the process and looking super cute! She has realized that it doesn't take straight hair all the time to get a neat and finished look. I hope this inspires you to keep up the hard work. Natural hair is beautiful!!

Going curly has been one of the happiest decisions that I have ever made! I am so proud of myself! I was INCREDIBLY intimidated by what people would think about my hair but everyone loves it. I think it was mostly an emotional thing. I grew up in church with girls of a different ethnicity than my own and as a young child I associated their hairdo's as Pentecostal. Even as a teenager I assumed that if I didn't have a Pentecostal hair do's that people would make fun of me or think I was ugly. Thankfully that was not the case and everyone has loved it. Of course I have encounters with people who make ignorant comments but that is just apart of life.
I have known about Kendra's blog  for about three years but never EVER thought I too would make the switch. I took a look at her blog a few times a year and always thought "No, that's not for me, it's a bit too much". However my hair wasn't growing instead it was breaking severely. My hair is past my shoulders in some places but in others it barely reached my shoulders. It was time to make the switch! I absolutely love my hair curly and I encourage all of you who are blog stalking and contemplating the switch to take the leap of faith. One of my favorite things about having curly hair is that I never have to worry about sweating my edges out at church. That right there friends is reason enough to make the switch!

Products I use:
Kinky Curly Knot Today  (the pink bottle) Its is one of the BEST leave in Conditioner/detangler's I have ever used. It is one of the more expensive products that I use so I only use it after washing my hair.
The Shea Moisture Organic Coconut and Hibiscus Products are amazing! In the beginning I was always touching my hair and it was dry. Then I stumbled upon...

When I do twists I take the section of hair and rub a bit of the Curl Enhancing Smoothie on the roots, then I dip again as i twist my hair then at the ends I add more. The next morning I took my twists out and WOW!!!!!! My hair was shiny, bouncy, and very moisturized.

I also use the Shea Moisture Organic and Hibiscus Curl and Shine Shampoo

Another Shea Moisture product....  I bust this stuff out whenever the fizz is a bit too intense.
On to my next favorite product!!! Seriously this Conditioner smells like a dessert! No joke!!
How I style my hair:
On Saturdays I wash and condition my hair then twist it up and add flexi-rods to the ends... on Sunday morning I just take those twists out and style my hair. I am having a difficult time parting my hair straight (always have) otherwise I would wear my twists longer.

On Wednesdays I co-wash and twist my hair and make my own interpretation of bantu knots...It gets interesting let me tell ya!!! On Thursday mornings I take everything out, style, and I am ready to go!!

BEFORE PICS
My hair was dry, frizzy and I thought it was unmanageable

AFTER PICS
New products, new styles - LOVE it!

Right before a wash! lol

Sorry to disappoint all of you but I only have a few pictures...However I will keep sending Kendra more so you all can see my hair journey!!

God Bless!
