For some reason, I thought all vintage store customers resemble hipsters. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled into this amazing woman who was "head-to-toe" fabulous complete with blinged out nails and stunning Hermes Birkin bag. I could make out a slight Russian accent as she explained to the sales associate that she divided her time between NY, LA, and Florida. Her entire visit consisted of trying on gorgeous pieces at the jewelry counter. She and I chatted a bit about amazing vintage locations in other states, she then made her purchases and jetted off to go live out her perfect life.
I instantly fell in love with this little store filled with one of a kind pieces from years past. My favorite accessories are jewelry pieces and this shop was filled with them.
Everywhere I looked, there were more unique pieces. I'm one of those people who tends to gravitate towards the jewelry counter whenever I enter any store and, lately, I've been feeling less than inspired at the current selections available at the malls. If I see one more bracelet with spikes on it, I'm going to flip out. Seems like nothing is original anymore.
I love being there.....
I scored these perfect little earrings which I fell in love with as soon as I laid eyes on them. They resemble a flower pattern except the "petals" were created with a chain and the center of the flower is a silver pearl. In true retro fashion, it turns out that they are actually clip on earrings. Which makes them the only pair of clip-ons I own. Oh, and they only set me back $5.00.
Being that this was my first venture into the vintage world, I wasn't adventurous enough to pick out any clothing items. There was a young couple who were actively seeking out 70's and 80's inspired clothing for an upcoming New Years Eve disco party. She found tons of sequented dresses that fit the party's theme.
To be honest with you, I would love to find some amazing vintage pieces as I redefine my image. I think back to an event I attended a couple of months back, there were these two young ladies who walked in the room and immediately captured everyone's attention. They were so perfectly unique in the way they dressed and how they styled their natural hair. When I chatted with them, I learned that their style inspiration consisted of hand selected vintage pieces.
Perhaps one of my intentions for this year might be to select a couple of pieces that catch my eye. I'm sure there's nothing like the feeling of knowing that you are wearing a one-of-a kind piece with a little history. I think I may have stumbled upon a new hobby.
